MATCH FORMAT
There are now multiple Slam competitions across the Southeast of England for both Men and Women. There are slight differences in the parameters around each of the matches, but there are some key characteristics that underpin them all:
DESIGNED TO FIT INTO 2.5 HOURS
The Slam is designed to offer meaningful cricket that fits with the busy lifestyles that so many of us now lead. As such matches are designed to fit into a midweek, Summer evening.
The Slam achieves this through simple tweaks to the playing rules, such as not having the fielding team change ends after each over apart from halfway through the innings. This alteration alone is proven to save 20 minutes in each match! In addition to this there is a bowler's run-up limit in the Men's competitions

LIMITS ON EACH PLAYER'S IMPACT ON THE GAME
The Slam is designed to be inclusive, this can't be achieved if one or two players have the ability to dominate proceedings. Therefore bowlers are limited to no more than 4 overs each and batters are retired (not out) after reaching a particular score. See each competition's specific match rules for the exact total in each case.

POWERPLAYS & FIELDING RESTRICTIONS
Making The Slam reflect the type of cricket that we see at the pro level, and to guard against negative tactics each competition dictates a minimum number of fielders that always have to be within a fielding ring (or stipulate a maximum that can be near the boundary). In the Men's Cup competitions the first 6 overs of each innings are now Powerplays meaning that only 2 fielders can be outside the ring, making for even more explosive action!
AFFORDABLE FOR ALL
The Slam is committed to ensuring that this format of cricket doesn't have cost as a barrier to entry. To achieve this for each match we use the following:
The Slam is committed to ensuring that this format of cricket doesn't have cost as a barrier to entry. To achieve this for each match we use the following:
- Centrally purchased pink match balls, giving each team a balance between cost and quality;
- Umpired by club members (except Finals' Days). By officiating our own matches this ensure no costly umpiring fees for short matches. The Slam provides access to online umpiring training materials to help raise the standard of officiating at grassroots level, which all of cricket will benefit from;
- The Slam does not stipulate that teams have to wear coloured kit, which would be at additional cost, but if you do want to brighten up how your side takes to the field then we have a relationship with SHARKS to provide completely bespoke kit at a price that beats all other options on the UK market.
