After just two years of operating in Surrey, The Slam landed in Sussex, albeit in the worst possible year as 2020 wasn't the best Summer for getting any group participation up and running.
However, after a promising 58 teams taking part in that challenging year, The Slam has really taken off and Sussex has become the largest county in terms of teams taking part with 116 in the Men's (across two tiers) and 16 in the Women's in 2023.
Following feedback and this growth on the Men's side, The Slam will be offering THREE TIERS of competition in 2024, meaning that more so than ever before every level of recreational player can participate in matches befitting their standard and needs. This is the first county to be offering three levels of Slam competition, and we are truly excited by the growth opportunities this provides for all clubs, associations and groups of friends right across the county.
Naturally The Slam's unique approach to player eligibility rules has been amended to accommodate this third tier and full details of who is eligible for The Cup, The Plate and The Trophy can be found under the SUSSEX MEN'S PLAYER ELIGIBILITY RULES page or there's a summary table below.

The Women's competition has firmly established itself as the go-to entry level hard-ball competition and has seen four wonderful Finals' Day occasions which have demonstrated in equal measure the development of the women's game along with our much joy our game can bring to so many different demographics. The growth in the women's game has been reflected in the number of teams that have taken part in The Slam each year, so much so that 2024 sees the launch of SECOND TIER with an 8-a-side, hard-ball, pairs competition being added to the options.
This Plate competition is deliberately for players outside of the Sussex League structure, offering a truly entry-level environment for the hard-ball game. Entry for all Slam competitions in Sussex in 2024 is now open and you will find full details, along with the online entry form either HERE or via the button below. |
