Primary state school pupils receive around 100 hours less cricket each year than their independently educated cricket club peers.
To help reduce this imbalance The Twenty20 Cricket Company has set up Borough State School Academies who will compete against each other in The Surrey Slam Schools competition in association with The Denis Jacobs Youth Cricket Trust
Each squad trains for 8 weeks in the autumn term and 8 weeks in the spring term, from 4-5pm one afternoon a week after school at a central hub site.
They also receive a coloured team shirt for matches
Each squad will have 4 match days on Sunday afternoons and/or early evening so players can play for their clubs in the morning.
Players are selected for year 3, 4 & 5 pupils the previous summer to take part when the programme starts when they are in years 4, 5 & 6.
