SURREY WOMEN'S SURVEY

The 2023 Slam season has come to and end and in addition to gaining your feedback, we would like to share with you a proposal for 2024 and for you to provide an indication of what your team would likely do if it came to fruition.

2024 proposal

Whilst it is extremely pleasing to see the growth and improvement in the female side of the recreational game, we are very conscious of the growing challenge that presents for The Slam in ensuring that it caters for as many demographics as possible.

The Surrey Slam was always designed as an entry-level hard ball competition and therefore it is vital that offers an environment welcoming to those sides and players looking to graduate from soft-ball; come back to the game after a period away; or stay in the game when the alternatives are higher than feel comfortable or enjoyable.

With that in mind the proposal for 2024 is to install the rule that anyone who has been on a County Pathway at U14 or older in the last two seasons will NOT be ineligible to play in The Slam, and then with that in place run the competition in two sections:

THE CUP

Aside from the addition of the County Pathway ineligibility rule above, all the current rules around player eligibility will remain.

THE PLATE

In principle it would run exactly the same as The Cup except for the additional rule that:

At least 50% of the team must be over the age of 18 as of 1st May 2024.

In the survey below could you please provide which of the two sections you would probably seek to participate in next year. NOTE that this does not constitute a commitment on your part, this is just for us to see if both parts would be sustainable in their own right and not cause geographical problems, which is a key consideration for The Slam, as journey times being too great are highly likely to undermine any other initiative.
